ADHD

ADHD is one of the most common developmental disorders seen in pediatrics. Therefore, it’s important to remove stigma associated with both having ADHD and medication use.

We developed the ADHD Myth Busting series with the aim of raising awareness, reducing stigma, and combating misinformation on the topic of ADHD.

  • MYTH: Kids will outgrow ADHD

  • MYTH: ADHD is a behavior problem

  • MYTH: Only boys have ADHD

  • MYTH: ADHD is just an excuse for laziness and bad behavior

  • MYTH: Children who take ADHD medication are more likely to become drug abusers

  • MYTH: ADHD is caused by bad parenting or sugar

  • MYTH: You can diagnose ADHD with a brain scan

Diagnostic Process

In Dr. Burlingham’s Practice, we use parent and teacher NICHQ Vanderbilt Assessment Scales to assist in diagnosing ADHD in children ages 6-12 years. My role in this assessment piece is to grade and share my findings with Dr. Burlingham. This role has sharpened my knowledge in understanding differential diagnoses.
